Talooby Angus Average $4360

THE LAND | Holly McAlister | Thursday September 12, 2013

It was a case of deja vu at this years Talooby Angus sale, when last year’s top-priced bull buyers Ian and Noella Spicer were once again the successful bidders on the top-priced bull.

The Grieve family, Rylstone, sold 57 from 65 bulls at this year’s sale, selling to an overall top of $8000 and averaging $4360.

The Spiecers, “Wangabutta”, Coonabarabran, took home Talooby Grenadier G126 for the top money.

Sire by Millah Murrah Neutron E78 from Talooby Unique W51, the two-year-old bull had estimate breeding values of +4.0 for birth weight, +73 for 600-day weight and +1.6 for scrotal size.

The Spicers, who have been buying Talooby bulls for more than 25 years, were also volume buyers at the sale, securing five bulls in total for an average of $6200.

Among the draft put together by the Spicers was one of the equal second top priced bulls, Talooby Galaxy G70, which sold for $7000.

Slightly older than Grenadier at about 26 months of age, Galaxy was a son of Millah Murrah Equator D1 from Talooby Zodiac C68.

A second bull knocked down for $7000 was sold to Wandoo Farms, “Wandoo”, Grenfell.

The bull, Talooby APR G334, was a two-year-old son of Talooby Barrister B34 from Talooby APR B248.

Also among the volume buyers of the day was Schroers Pty Ltd, Leumeah, which secured four bulls for an average of $3500.

Four bulls went north of the border to Wowan in Central Qlds, bought by Brad Saunders, Pheasant Creek Brangus, for a top of $6000 and average of $4500.

The Hawthorne Partnership, “Hawthorne”, Binnaway, also bought four bulls, paying to a top of $5000 and averaging $3500.
