The Herd

The herd began producing commercial bulls in 1970. In 1972 the cowherd numbered 200 head – 142 of them were by Wallah Faridy. This breeding to type is the foundation stone of Talooby today, where consistent lines of structurally correct cattle make up the herd.

The herd is one of the original performance recording herds starting in 1964 as a demonstration herd for NSW Agriculture. The herd performance records today through Breed Plan, Ultrasound scanning and visual assessment.

“Our aim has always been to produce structurally sound, moderately framed cattle with thickness, softness, ease of doing, that also have positive indicators for fertility and excellent temperament.” Peter Grieve.

Seed stock progeny of the herd is made available through out the year by private treaty, Annual Bull Sale, and the Hunter Valley Breeders Female Sale. Talooby’s genetic influence ranges from Tasmania and South Australia, through to Queensland, with a concentration in central Western NSW.
